What would Thanksgiving be without CRANBERRY Relish or Sauce? It’s the staple everyone has come to expect with their Thanksgiving meal. As a child I assumed the decorated plate of red circles were merely adornment for the table (that’s right, we opened cans, PLOPPED the ridged sauce on a plate and sliced). WE’VE COME A LONG WAY. Sauces and relishes have become art, with ADDED FRUITS AND FLAVORS. I was searching for the history of this lovely red relish and found the following to be much more interesting (yes, I’m a BEATLES fan).
According to Wikipedia… at the end of the song STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER, singer John Lennon can be heard repeating a phrase which, to many listeners, sounds like “I buried Paul”. In fact, close listening of studio tapes reveals he actually says “CRANBERRY SAUCE”. Lennon confirmed this in a 1980 interview, stating it was a kind of “icing on the cake” of the weirdness of the song, where anything he might have imagined saying would have been appropriate, and had no special meaning.
