Sun + John, Natural History Museum Los Angeles
While some dream of a more traditional wedding, perhaps in a church or a lovely outdoor garden, others prefer to take a more contemporary approach. Sun + John are one of the couples that break the mold with class. These sweethearts celebrated their union at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles. From the gorgeous botanical grounds to the massive dinosaur fossils, this wedding was surely one to be remembered. With the help of our Event Specialist, April Chaim, and the coordination of Chloe + Mint, this day was an ideal scene for guests to enjoy.
Of course this couple had an equally cool and eclectic spot where they would get ready for their big day. The beautiful bride dressed and got all dolled up at the Line Hotel, in the heart of Koreatown. Her strapless, beaded blush gown, elegant cape, funky shoes, and sweeping hair made for a truly spectacular look.
As for John’s getup, he wore a black suit fit with a spiffy floral tie, crocodile tie clip, and brown oxfords. To top it all off, he sported a paper flower boutonniere to match the bouquet and the other whimsical florals throughout the space. The two shared a sweet first look in the museum’s rose gardens. They exchanged gifts and walked about the greenery before heading into the museum for the ceremony.
Sun’s paper bouquet was absolutely stunning. With its pastel color palette, wild shape, and an array of flower types, it brought a romantic pop to her ensemble. Inside, guests took their seats in the rotunda with stretching columns and an intricate domed ceiling. After the bride’s mother walked her down the aisle, the two exchanged their thoughtful vows in front of their closest family and friends. After the “I Dos,” everyone enjoyed cocktails next to the incredible dinosaur fossils before heading into the reception for dinner and a rompin’ good time. Guests were welcome to the signature libations we mixed up for Sun + John: His Fools Russian and Her Malibu Gun. As for hors d’oeuvres, we passed around our Filet & Wild Mushroom Wellington with Béarnaise Sauce and Crab Cakes served with a Mango Papaya Salsa. In the African Hall, the tables were beautifully dressed with crème textured tablecloths, sprawling paper florals, white ceramics, and gold accents. Exhibits of native African species surrounded guests as they celebrated. Fun animal masks, photos of the couple’s adventures and meaningful décor we’re added to the space for a personal feel. For dinner, the couple opted our buffet style setup with delicious Grilled Marinated Vegetables, Arugula & Asiago Salad, Zucchini Lime Chicken, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Vegetarian Rotolo Bolzano, and Tri Tip Carvery served with Argentinian Chimichurri with Charred Three Onion Sauce. Then came the dance party, toasts, and traditions. John + Sun were full of joy and excitement surrounded by their loved ones. When it was time for cake, the two headed to our dessert station filled with all sorts of sweet goodies for guests to enjoy: Mini Lemon Meringue Pies, French Macarons, Petite Crème Brulee, Chocolate Dipped Strawberries, Mini Red Velvet Cupcakes, and Mini Coconut Capped White Bavarian Cream Cupcake. The main event was a three-tiered Marble and Chocolate Cake with Chocolate and Vanilla Bavarian Frosting topped with French Buttercream Icing. Congratulations to Sun + John, we wish you the best on this new and exciting journey. Thank you to Honey Honey Photography for sharing your gorgeous photos of their day with all of us!
Kalie + Jake, The Estate on Second
Today we are sharing a sweet union with gorgeous botanicals and unique bits of whimsy. Kalie + Jake celebrated their marriage at The Estate on Second alongside their dearest family and friends. On their special day, the space was styled as the perfect mix of rustic décor, elegant style, and personal touches. With the help of coordinator Jamie Delsigne, it was truly an evening to remember. The excitement began as the two prepared for the day with their respective parties. While the guys hung out and dressed up in grey, suspenders, and fun socks, the gals got all dolled up in the Estate’s Bridal Suite. Kalie was absolutely stunning in her sweetheart strapless gown. To complete the ensemble, Jamie Gomez gave her a beautiful, yet natural look and sweeping locks. The bridesmaids were dressed in gorgeous light grey gowns, while the maid of honor wore a complimentary charcoal tone. The couple opted to have their ceremony in The Attic. This intimate upstairs room was the ideal setting for their ceremony. Beautiful flower arrangements by Growing Grace Floral Design lined the aisle with romantic candles. Woodland tree stumps were decorated with vintage accents, moss, florals, and succulents to add a fresh, personal aesthetic. Natural light flooded the room as Kalie made her way toward Jake. The two shared their vows, said their “I Dos”, and exchanged rings in the presence of great company. After, everyone celebrated as the made their way back up the aisle with pure joy.
After the ceremony, guests were invited out on the Terrace to partake in cocktail hour with tasty hors d’oeuvres and libations. The newlyweds collaborated with us to offer their very own signature cocktails. For small bites, we served up Mini Filet & Wild Mushroom Wellington with Béarnaise Sauce along with a Crudite & Homemade Chip Station. Meanwhile, Kalie + Jake were taking their first photos as husband and wife outside The Estate. Once cocktail hour simmered down and everything for the reception was set, guests went downstairs to The Crystal Ballroom for the big celebration.
The whole room was decked out with lovely details, from the wedding party’s farmhouse tables covered in sprawling garland to the painted brick table numbers. Guests found their respective tables by choosing their copper “party animal” name tag from the bunch. Hand-lettered signage by Nicole Solis was placed around the room at various stations. To add to the fun and theme, Kalie + Jake themed questionnaire games and tree bark pencils waited at the tables.
Before the delicious dinner ensued, the couple was warmly welcomed into the reception and had their first dance in front of their loved ones. The couple went with some of our classic and nostalgic, comfort food items: Chicken Breast Tenders, Macaroni & Cheese, Caesar Salad, Bone-in BBQ Chicken, and Smoked Beef Brisket. As everyone enjoyed their meals, bridal party and family shared toasts, reminiscing and wishing Kalie + Jake the best of luck in the years to come. Then it was time to cut the cake. The two headed to the splendid dessert station fit with our freshly baked cookies and assorted sweets. To complete the look, the credenza was decked in botanicals, white antique pieces, and a “EAT” neon sign overhead. For the main event, we prepared a dreamy Tiered Lemon Naked Cake filled with Lemon Crème filling and dusted with powdered sugar. To add that extra flair, they picked a gold “Mr. & Mrs.” cake topper to finish off the look.
Once everyone had their sweets, guests hit the dance floor to celebrate these two. The rest of the night was filled with laughter and love.
Congratulations to Kalie + Jake, we were so thrilled to host your wedding at the Estate. We wish you all the best. And a very special thanks to Laura Ford for sharing her amazing photos of the day.

The Hot, New Dessert Trend
There is a lot of talk out there about wedding fare, especially when it comes to the sweet stuff. While some are sticking with the classic, tiered cake, we’ve noticed that many fall into another camp: those who are wanting, or simply willing, to branch out and try something unexpected. Whether this newfound desire for change is rooted in the idea that the tiered cake is past its time, or whether it’s because the desire to be different trumps tradition, we have some exciting dessert options and would love to share them with you. Our Dessert Bar has quickly become an event favorite, featuring a wide range of delectable treats from traditional to tropical, and all tremendously tasty. Dessert Bar’s are a great way to add diversity, so you and your guests can pick what you want without being confined to a cake. Cake critics might say that they’re just for decoration, so why even bother? But if your one of those people that believes they’re for more than just decor purposes—in other words, if you want your cake and want to eat it, too—then we have your solution. Have both! This is a great way to be able to have a classic cake cutting, a decadently decorated piece, and, you know, the option to smush it in your new spouse’s face. All this can be done while still having a great selection of top tier desserts that give your guests the freedom to indulge in their personal favorites. Tropical Dessert Station
Feel like your sweet summer is gone? Well, it doesn’t have to be! Here at Jay’s, we understand that a sweet tooth has no seasons, so with our Tropical Dessert Station, you can hang onto summer sweetness year round. This recent addition is a crowd favorite, featuring a collection of Piña Colada Key Lime Dessert shots, Individual Pineapple Upside Down Cakes, Tropical Fruit Tarts with Mango Cream, Mini Coconut Capped Bavarian Cupcakes, and Banana Fruit Cream Puffs. Rustic Dessert Station
Elegant, classic, and simply delectable, this station is as tasty as it is tasteful. It features a collection of Mixed Berry Crostatas, Chocolate Croissants, Almond Croissants, Scones, and Chocolate Decadence. And don’t forget the cake! Finish off your dessert station with a custom cake to match the mood and decor of your event—this way, you get the best of both worlds, adding diversity and flavor to your event, keeping you and your guests satisfied. Check out our other dessert stations—Gourmet, All American, Italian, Latin, and Classic.
Special thanks to Queen Tut Events, All in the Detail Design, Foxtail Florals, and Sundrop Vintage for helping us create these dazzling setups!
We would also like to thank Kristina Adams Photography, Morgan Hydinger, and Brett Hickman Photographers for the amazing shots of our desserts.
We wish you all the best in event planning, and we hope we can help you make your day unforgettably smooth and delicious.
Jenn + Jeff, Serra Plaza
It’s no secret that planning the perfect wedding is a difficult feat, but when it comes together, there is truly nothing like it. It’s amazing to consider that on an ordinary day this year, while the world continued to rush around and move here and there, two people paused time and committed their lives to one another, making that normal day the perfect day. Jenn + Jeff married at Serra Plaza, and we’re here to share with you the sheer beauty of the occasion. The delightful ease and seamless movement of the event was made possible by coordinators Courtney Mendell and Brandi Smith of High Society Event Planning and our Event Specialist, Nickie Good. Starting at their respective rooms, Jenn and her bridesmaids got dolled up while Jeff and his groomsmen suited up and got dapper. Graceful and winsome, Jenn wore a lace, luxuriously embroidered dress with a delicate, beaded sash and Queen Anne neckline. Jeff wore a fitted suit with a faintly striped skinny tie, while his groomsmen had on blush ties, pairing with the subtle tones of the varying bridesmaids’ dresses. Both parties paused for photographs in the stunning, draped loggia, just before the final walk into the Grand Plaza Courtyard. The courtyard flows with peace and resplendence, embodying the pure and natural qualities of Spanish architecture. With gorgeous flowers and foliage by Inviting Occasion filling pots and decorating a running fountain, and chandeliers hanging from market lighting, one almost can’t imagine a more serene place. As if the place couldn’t look any better, in walks Jeff followed by the bridesmaids escorted by the groomsmen. Then, veil and all, Jenn appears, walking over flower petals to meet her man at the altar. Vows are said, applause and shouts echo through the olive trees, and what to do now but eat, drink, dance, and carry on the festivities in celebration. Jeff and Jenn were off to take their first photos as newlyweds, and while waiting, everyone enjoyed His and Hers signature cocktails and Hors d’ Oeuvres—featuring our Bruschetta Pomodoro served on herb toasted sliced baguette with a Cilantro Cream, Filet and Wild Mushroom Wellington with Bernaise Sauce, and Chicken Empanadas. The reception began and guests were seated, savoring the moments with their loved ones. The main course was served—our delectable Filet of Beef with Chicken Parmigiana—and speeches were given, everyone sharing in laughs and heartfelt memories. As for dessert, its a wonder how they were able to cut a cake so pretty, but they managed. They chose our three tier cake—the top two layers, chocolate with Vanilla Bavarian Filling, and the bottom layer, Marble Cake with Chocolate Bavarian Filling. If that’s not enough, we also passed our scrumptious Cookies & Milk Shots. As the sun went down the music kept up, everyone celebrating the new, happy couple, honoring their love with dance moves both interesting and impressive. People hopped over to the Photo Booth, dressing in props and putting on a show for the camera. The garner and bouquet were both tossed and caught, and the celebration of their beautiful commitment in love continued through the night. Congratulations Jenn + Jeff! We are honored that we were able to be a part of such an amazing day. We wish you the best of years to come. Special thanks to Josh Elliot for the outstanding photography, capturing the timeless day of elegance and allure.
